INFO:
To celebrate Lesbian Visibility Week, we’re taking a look at famed lesbian and gay rights activist, Jean O’Leary, who began training as a nun in 1966 and came out as a lesbian in the convent of the Sisters of the Holy Humility of Mary. In this 2004 clip from ‘Get Used To It’, O’Leary, who is also known for co-founding National Coming Out Day, recounts her experience entering the covent with the “subconscious” knowledge that she was a lesbian, before coming out and having several relationships with the women in the nunnery. She left the convent after 5 years, having realized she couldn't be true to herself and her identity there.
